Friday, the Sigourney-Keota Cobra football team hosted Dyersville-Beckman at the Snake Pit in Sigourney. In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, the Cobras scored a 35 to 14 victory in the round of 16 playoffs. SK wasted no time, marching the game’s first possession 15 plays, 69 yards and Sam Sieren finished it with a one yard touchdown run to put the Cobras up 7-0. After a missed 34 yard field goal by Beckman ending an 11 play drive SK took it right down the field again. The Cobras went 80 yards on 13 plays finishing when Cade Molyneux went up top to Evan Dawson for a 29-yard touchdown to make it 14-0.
From there Sigourney-Keota went to work on defense. With the Blazers driving Wyatt Sieren picked off Beckman’s Nick Offerman inside the 20. After a Cobra punt, SK had their backs against the wall until Brady Duwa picked off Offerman at the goal line to secure a 14 to 0 lead going to break.
Out of halftime, Beckman drove inside of the Sigourney-Keota 10 before the Cobras got a strip and Carson Sprouse recovered the fumble at the nine. With the ball again the Cobras put together a dominant 91 yard, 18 play march ending with a Sieren three yard touchdown run putting SK up 20-0 early in the fourth.
Beckman would get on the board with their next possession when Offerman found Conner Grover from 13 yards to make it 20 to 7. Looking to squeeze the last bit of life from Beckman, SK got the ball back and on the very first play Sieren raced 51 yards up the middle for his third touchdown of the night. He added the two, to make it 28 to 7. Beckman desperately tried to put together a drive but turned it over on downs and Sieren punched in one more touchdown in the games last three minutes.
Sieren ended the night with four touchdowns and more than 150 yards on the ground. The Cobra defense forced three turnovers. With the loss Dyersville-Beckman ends their season at 6-3. With the win Sigourney-Keota is now 9-0 on the year and into the state quarterfinals to face Waterloo Columbus who was a winner over Mediapolis.
