The Highland High School FFA Chapter was recognized by the Iowa FFA Foundation Incorporated. They will receive a scale-up grant for Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE) from the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council. Gina Trower, Highland FFA Advisor, plans to use the funds to attend the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources CASE Institute. Of the $11,500 awarded to the chapter, they will use $3,000 for the institute and the remaining $8,500 to purchase the equipment necessary for the program. According to the National Association of Agricultural Educators, this course is designed to introduce students to the range of agricultural opportunities and the pathways of study they may pursue through science, mathematics, reading, and writing. They will review agriculture, FFA, SAE, communication methods, scientific processes, natural resources, plants, animals and agricultural mechanics.
