UPDATE AS OF 5:45AM NOVEMBER, 4TH
Election officials are continuing to count ballots from coast to coast, but some local races were announced with results from area county auditors Tuesday night. In Washington County, incumbent Republican Stan Stoops was re-elected to the Board of Supervisors. Stoops received 56.9% of the vote over challenger Democrat Lorraine Williams. In House District 78 that covers Keokuk County and most of Washington County, Republican incumbent Jarad Klein was re-elected. Klein received 68% of the vote over Democrat Kimberly Davis.
In House District 84, Republican Joe Mitchell won with 71.1% of the vote over Democrat Jeff Fager with 28.6% of the vote. Senate District 42 switched red as Republican challenger Jeff Reichman took the race with 59.8% of the vote over incumbent Democrat Rich Taylor with 40%.
Statewide, Iowa’s six electoral votes went to President Donald Trump. Iowa’s Senate seat went to Republican incumbent Joni Ernst with 51.8% of the vote. In Iowa’s second congressional district, the Associated Press still deems the race between Democrat Rita Hart and Republican Mariannette Miller-Meeks as too close to call. With 100% of precincts reporting Miller-Meeks holds a slim lead of 282 votes.
