With fall yard clean up in full swing before cooler weather arrives the City of Kalona is reminding residents of their choices to clear their yards of waste. According to the city, yard waste bags can be purchased from Johnson County Refuse. When full, those can be placed on the curb for pickup next to the regular garbage bins. Only Johnson County Refuse bags will be picked up.
The other option is to burn dry yard waste. That can be done Thursday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. These fires must include landscape waste only, be 50 feet from any structure, have adult supervision on hand at all times, be extinguished if there are any complaints about smoke, and a working garden hose must be available for immediate use. Any questions can be directed to Kalona City Hall at 319-656-2310.
