Nate Robinson will continue to serve as school board president for the Highland Community School District. Board members voted this week to have Robinson begin his fourth year in that role.  Robinson says it’s a good feeling knowing other board members have faith in you to be a spokesperson for the district and kind of be a face for the district.  He says it also feels good the the community has elected him twice to be a representative on the board and work for them.  Robinson says it’s been a challenging academic year, so the school board has tried to support school administrators as they work through different plans for COVID-19, how they’re going to be attending school and what’s going to be required in schools.  He says he’s thankful the board has been able to show a lot of unity in supporting administrators.  Robinson says making things work hasn’t always been easy, “Everybody’s having to make some tough decisions and some unpopular decisions, and we know we’re in spots occasionally where we can’t win, but I think our administrators have come up with the best plan at the right time given the situation we’re in currently.”  Aside from COVID-19, Robinson says the biggest challenge for rural schools is addressing declining enrollment since school funding is based off enrollment.
