Washington County’s ballots were canvassed this week. Elections Administrator Sue Meeks says there were four ballots received after election day but only one had a timely postmark. That one ballot was accepted by the absentee board. The board also accepted seven of the 10 provisional ballots. No local results were changed by adding the eight ballots.
One race that has not yet been called is that of House District 2 which covers 24 counties in southeast Iowa. As of Thursday, Republican candidate Mariannette Miller-Meeks leads by 47 votes. Democratic candidate Rita Hart announced that her campaign would be filing for a recount in all 24 counties in the district. The campaign cited tabulation irregularities as the need for a recount. Secretary of State Paul Pate announced an over-reporting error in Jasper County and under-reported votes in Lucas County.
