Washington’s Trashaun Willis raised plenty of eyebrows throughout the fall with his play on the gridiron and the senior had one final eyebrow raising moment on Tuesday when he was named captain of the Class 3A All State team.

The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association slotted him as the top guy in the 22-person first team as a defensive utility player. The 6’5’’ 235 pound linebacker racked up 37.5 tackles and one interception for a touchdown in his third year starting on the defensive side. The unanimous offensive MVP for District 5 was also a monster in his first year starting at quarterback. Willis threw for 907 yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 523 yards on the ground and 13 more scores. His 27 total touchdowns on the year ranked first in the district.

Fellow senior Zayne Laws was named to the third team as a defensive lineman. The 6’4’’ 220 pound Laws was a handful for opposing offenses finishing second in the league with 11 tackles for loss and five sacks. The senior tallied 31.5 tackles and recovered two fumbles.

The duo helped the Demons to an 8-1 season, their first district title in seven years, and a round of 16 playoff berth.
