An early season Henry County rivalry took place in Winfield on Tuesday, as the Wolves’ girls basketball team controlled a Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup against WACO with a 52-43 win.
The home team had a methodical night leading 10-6 after one, 27-20 at the break, and 41-27 after three before the Warriors fought in the fourth to make it a single digit game. Farrah Nelson sunk seven of 13 shots to finish with a game-high 14 points. The senior also got it done defensively with seven rebounds and four steals. Kyndal Townsley recorded 12 points with six boards, Jami Wilkerson dished out five assists, and the team shot 40% from the floor. Ellah Kissell led the Warriors with 12 points and Aubri Garnsey added nine.
The Wolves move to 2-0 and travel to Pekin on Tuesday. WACO starts up the campaign 0-1 and they host Holy Trinity the same day.
