The final accomplishments of a historical season for the Sigourney-Keota football team was released this week with five players being named to all state teams released by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Three players were named to the first team in running back Sam Sieren, offensive lineman Zach Smithart, and defensive back Brady Duwa. Sieren was a workhorse of a back leading class 1A in rushing touchdowns with 25 and his 1,706 yards on the ground ranked second. He averaged 8.3 yards per rush and tallied 19.5 tackles defensively. The 5’10’’ 250 pound Smithart was a key cog in a line that paved the way for a state-best 3,489 rushing yards. Duwa was a ball hawk with five interceptions and finished with 30 tackles. The senior also tallied 831 yards of total offense with 12 scores.
Wyatt Sieren was named second team defensive back. The senior managed 47.5 tackles, intercepted four passes, and hauled in three receiving touchdowns. Brayden Moffit was the final Cobra honored with a third team selection. The senior was a main part of their offensive line as a tackle.
The five players helped the Cobras to a 10-1 season and their first trip to the dome in 15 years.
