For the fourth year in a row, the Wellman-Scofield Public Library is conducting its annual gingerbread house making contest. But due to rising cases of coronavirus in the area, the library is currently closed and offering only curbside pickup of books. It also means the gingerbread contest will be a virtual competition, although library Director Carol Wilkins says it’s more about family bonding, “We ask that families do this together, to make it a nice tradition. The gingerbread house or whatever they make needs to be made out of all edible materials. Houses, pretzel houses, a carousel one year, a teepee. People are very creative, so it’s just to have fun.” Wilkins says the gingerbread contest is open to any family that wishes to participate, they must provide their own gingerbread supplies, and they should submit a photo of their creation by December 18 to Wilkins. Judging will be done by the general public through social media. Wilkins says she will miss the smell of not having the gingerbread houses on display in the library as they would in a normal year
