Ninth and 10th grade students at Hillcrest Academy sold almost $5,000 in chocolate as part of their annual fall fundraising campaign. Lee Ebersole, Instructor of Bible at Hillcrest, says the group of 14 students worked with Kalona Chocolates on the project that tallied a total $4,936 in sales with 35 percent, a little over $1,700, coming back to the school, “So it goes into a student account that pays for their senior trip when they’re seniors. It pays for if there are choir trips or FFA conventions or every other year we do a special emphasis called SALT, service and learning term. So, sometimes that involves some expenses.” Ebersole says they were able to increase their sales this year even though fewer students were involved.  He says online ordering helped their efforts and selling products from a local company like Kalona Chocolates for the second year certainly helps as well.  Delivery of chocolate orders is expected in time for Christmas.
