Two people have died as a result of a two-vehicle wreck that occurred in Washington County Thursday evening.
According to Iowa State Patrol, at about 5:31 p.m. 66-year-old Patricia A. Remington of Brighton was driving a Chevy Equinox north on Fir Avenue west of Brighton while 29-year-old Westley A. Vaughan of Oskaloosa was driving a Chrysler Pacifica east on Highway 1. Remington failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with Vaughan’s vehicle, and both vehicles came to rest in the northeast ditch.
Remington and a passenger 67-year-old Nita J. Hesseltine of Rubio both died on scene and were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Vaughan and passenger 25-year-old Mateo Ariza of Oskaloosa were both transported by Washington County Ambulance to Washington County Hospital and University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, respectively. The incident remains under investigation with Iowa State Patrol. Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Ambulance, and Washington and Brighton fire departments all assisted at the scene. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
