The Washington girls’ basketball team picked up a non-conference game to their schedule on Thursday and traveled to Wapello where they came up short 38-33.
The Demons trailed by as much as 15 early in the second quarter when a late push got it back to single digits at half trailing 20-11. Washington hung around in the final two quarters trailing by just two with a minute left, but Arrow free throws salted the game away. Washington finished 12 of 50 from the field including five of 31 from long range. Greta Rothe led the way with eight points and seven steals while Kaylin Long chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
The Demons drop to 0-2 and look for their first win on Monday in the home opener against Centerville.
