Folks can now look up at the Washington County Courthouse to check the time, thanks to some keen observers and County employees.

Work was recently completed to repair the courthouse clocktower, which a buildings and grounds employee informed County Auditor Dan Widmer that it was showing the wrong time back in September. The chimes were still ringing at the correct time, as it is set to a digital clock that was installed a few years ago. Widmer says he reached out to Americlock, Inc. based in Missouri to install a new self-starting clock movement, which was completed on November 23rd.

Widmer believes this repair will keep the clock running on time for years to come, “Americlock, we’re familiar with them. They repaired the chimes a few years ago for the sesquicentennial and they did great work at that point. And so that’s why we immediately thought of them and contacted them to see if they could come and take care of this issue and they did and we’re very pleased.”

Widmer says the cost for the new clock parts totaled $3,700, which was paid for by the County’s building fund.
