Despite the challenges presented by the current pandemic, the annual Madrigal Dinner at Mid-Prairie High School will go on this weekend.

Performances are set for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, but Mid-Prairie Vocal Director Collette McClellen says attendance is being limited due to COVID-19 safety protocols, “We cut the number of tickets, not quite in half, but almost in half. In a normal year, we could probably fit 150 to 160 people in, and now we’re about 80 or 90 for a night.”

McClellen says additional safety measures include spacing out tables for better social distancing, no socializing among guests in the lobby prior to the show, and each table will have a dedicated waiter to take care of guests for the entire performance.

McClellen says performers will wear masks and she hopes the audience will be understanding, “It’s just hard to get volume through a mask. The kids are doing a great job singing, they’re doing a great job delivering their lines, but sometimes it’s hard to hear because of that extra layer of material.”

McClellen says the students worked extremely hard to keep Mid-Prairie’s madrigal dinner tradition alive for its 27th year.  Performances are sold out.
