The Washington and Sigourney bowling teams are back on the lanes for the first time this season tonight when they come together with West Burlington for a triangular at Keokuk County Bowl. The Demon boys went 0-6 in duel meets last season. Washington was led by Ethan Zieglowsky a season ago, who returns for his junior year after 5,347 total pins last season. Drake Schluetter and Liam Eldridge have moved on from Washington through graudation.

The Washington girls had a record of 1-4 in duels last season, beating Mount Pleasant for their lone victory in the format. Washington had six members on the team, five of them seniors including stat leader Taylor Northup with 3,788 total pins. Along with Northup, Dawsen Schluetter, Rylie Swart, Taylor Janecek and Katie Donnelly have all graduated from last year’s club.

A year ago the Sigourney girls finished with a record of 2-4 with wins over Pella Christian and Norwalk. The Savages return all eight from last year’s team, led by Hannah Alderson, back for her junior season, after 3,266 total pins a year ago.

The Sigourney boys were 0-4 in duels a year ago. The Savages did make history as Holden Huffman became the first bowler in Sigourney history to qualify for state, rolling a two-game 480 score at Rose Bowl in Muscatine to advance as at-large qualifier. Statistical leader for Sigourney a season ago was Corren Freel with 2,572 total pins in his freshman season. Huffman was the only senior on last year’s team of eight so plenty of experience returns for Sigourney.

At this meet last season it was the Sigourney boys that got the win with 2,136 to West Burlington’s 2,084 and Washington’s 749. Huffman led Sigourney with a 384. Individual meet champion was Zieglowsky for Washington with a 408. In the girls side of action Washington was the triangular winner with a total of 1,980 to Sigourney’s 1,787 and West Burlington’s 1,368. The Demons were led by individual runner-up Taylor Janecek and her 293. Sigourney’s Hannah Alderson was individual meet champion rolling a 301. Action starts today at 2p.m. and continues into the evening at Keokuk County Bowl in Sigourney.
