The first girl/boy doubleheader of the season was a tough night for the Washington basketball teams, as they were swept by Pella in a non-conference showdown.

As heard on KCII, the Demon girls were at a major height disadvantage and Pella (2-2) dominated the rebounding department. They caused 14 first half Demon turnovers to lead 30-5 at the break and continued to pile on in the final two quarters to win 58-12. Madison Naig was a hard post player to stop with a game-high 21 points. Washington was led by Anna Nacos with six points and Alex Murphy added four. The Demons drop to 0-4 and seek their first win on Monday when they host Sigourney.

Hot shooting for the Dutch in the nightcap spelled doomed for the Demons, as Pella (3-0) knocked down six first half triples to take a 47-26 lead at half. The fast pace game continued in the second half with Washington never getting closer than 17 and they fell 87-55. Four Dutch players were in double figures led by Ryan Mace with 16 points. The Demons’ Kasen Bailey led the team with 17 points while Trashaun Willis and Ethan Patterson each had 12. Washington is now 1-1 and they welcome Oskaloosa to town on Tuesday.
