A Mount Pleasant man is facing multiple felony and other charges after trying to elude law enforcement officials by vehicle and on foot.
According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, at about 2 p.m. Wednesday deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by 49-year-old Michael Anthony Earp, who was known to have several arrest warrants pending against him. Earp refused to stop in the 1700 block of South Iris Street in Mount Pleasant and sped off. During the pursuit, Earp lost control of his vehicle in the 3100 block of Lexington Avenue and subsequently fled on foot. After a brief foot chase, Earp was taken into custody.
Sheriff’s deputies then executed a search warrant for the suspect’s vehicle and Earp was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class C felony; possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, a class D felony; carrying weapons, an aggravated misdemeanor; and driving under suspension, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and interference with official acts, all simple misdemeanors.
Mount Pleasant Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incidentAfter an initial court appearance, Earp was held on a $15,000 bond.
