With COVID-19 safety in mind the annual soup supper fundraiser for the Ainsworth Fire Department will be a drive- through event.
Fire Chief Waylon Schultz says people interested in enjoying chili or potato soup can come to the fire station Saturday between 4:30 and 7:30 pm with no pre-order necessary, “People just drive through, it’s freewill donation, we’ll have somebody outside to take your order, they’ll see how many people they have (in their car), see how many chili, how many potato soups they want. We’ll bag it up and take it to their vehicle and they can go home and enjoy some nice soup and then drive through town and check out the Christmas lights.”
Schultz says in a typical year, they will serve upwards of 400 people. This year’s soup supper is being conducted in conjunction with Ainsworth Community Together (ACT) which is sponsoring a tour of live Christmas displays at six Ainsworth homes. He says people can donate to ACT when they visit those displays between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
Besides affecting their soup supper, Schultz says the pandemic has also delayed the opportunity to host an open house for their new fire station that opened in February. He says they hope to have public tours sometime next spring.
