The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team was beaten in a pair of River Valley Conference duels Thursday night in Wellman. The Golden Hawks fell to Monticello 46-36 to open the night. Winning contested matches against the Panthers were Owen Trimpe at 152 by fall, Jardin Mufaume at 170 by fall, Ben Meader at 182 by fall, Cael Garvey at 195 by fall and Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall.
The Golden Hawks fell to Iowa City Regina in the night cap 39-36. Mid-Prairie got a contested match win from Gannon Callahan at 285 by fall. After the meet, Mid-Prairie head coach Justin Garvey talked about his team’s night, including Callahan’s 2-0 mark. “You look at our lineup and the top half is our strongest right now. Those are the veteran guys back with the most experience. Against Monticello they did what they needed to do. We did look a little bit sluggish on our feet tonight but they still went out there and got work done. Overall everything just felt off tonight, the atmosphere felt off and we were a little flat and things just didn’t work out. Against Regina, I’m really disappointed in the way we wrestled. Obviously we’ve got a lot of things to clean up. As a bright spot it was great to have Gannon Callahan back in the lineup. He brings that fire that we have been missing and is a big presence. He’s getting it done for us right now and I’m excited to see where his season goes.”
The Hawks now have a 3-5 duel record on the season and will next be in action Saturday in Wellman when they host the Colton Allen Memorial Tournament.
