Being shut down for a few weeks due to virtual learning, the Highland wrestling team finally got on the mat Thursday for the first time on the season and they fell in a pair of duals at Van Buren.
The Huskies lost to Burlington Notre Dame 60-18 in the triangular meet. There were four contested matches in the dual and the Huskies won one of them with Eli Slaymaker recording a pin at 285 lbs in 31 seconds. Van Buren edged Highland in the other dual winning 31-30 off of tie breaking rules. Despite losing the dual, the Huskies were victorious in four out of the six contested matches. Easton Schlabaugh had a pin at 120 lbs in 3:29, Bryce Thompson won by fall in 3:44 at 126 lbs, Jack Peiffer by fall at 132 lbs in 1:42, and Kolton Miller pinned his opponent in 1:30 at 170 lbs.
Highland opens the winter 0-2 and they get back on the mat tomorrow at North Cedar for a tournament.
