The Washington School Board held their annual organizational meeting and received a COVID-19 update during their regular meeting Wednesday.
The Board elected Eric Turner and Troy Suchan as president and vice president, respectively. They also appointed Turner to continue to serve on the Washington County Conference Board. Later in the meeting Superintendent Willie Stone gave an update on COVID-19 numbers, stating that as of Wednesday the District has 15 positive cases and 42 absences due to quarantine. He stated that numbers-wise, the District is doing well, and that their current numbers don’t support the District moving to hybrid or 100% virtual learning. A lack of transportation staff could be a factor for that decision. Stone also mentioned that five percent of students currently wear a face shield or other face covering besides a mask, and those who do wear a mask choose so to avoid quarantine due to exposure.
