The yearly area showdown between the Washington and Sigourney girls’ basketball teams will be tonight with the Demons hosting the non-conference action.

The Demons seek their first win of the young campaign, as they sit at 0-4 and last were on the court Tuesday when Pella downed them 58-12. Anna Nacos leads the team with 28 points in the four games. The Savages are 2-1 and look to rebound after a tough 33-31 loss to Belle Plaine on Friday. Kaylee Weber has been a steady force averaging 15 points and 11 rebounds thus far. Sigourney Head Coach Zach Tremmel tells KCII Sports it is always a tussle when these teams matchup. “We have had some good battles over the years being on the winning and losing side. We know we are going to see a more physical team by moving up a few classes. If we can limit them to one shot and take care of the ball we will have a shot at winning.”

These schools have split the last six meetings with Washington claiming last season by a 49-38 final.

The area matchup gets underway at 7:45 p.m. tonight at Washington High School. All of the action can be heard on FM 106.1 KCII starting around 7:15 p.m.
