Mid-Prairie Wrestling 2020, Colton Allen Invitational Champions
The Mid-Prairie wrestling team got back on the winning track Saturday, winning their home Colton Allen Memorial Tournament at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Hawks took the team title with an overall score of 104 points, edging second place Alburnett by one half point. On the day, the Golden Hawks were led by a pair of champions with Cael Garvey winning four matches by fall and the championship at 195 and Josh Wallington pinning his way to the title at 220. After the meet, Garvey and Wallington talked about their days. Garvey said “We all put in the work on that Friday to get better and now that work is showing, moves are crisp, takedowns are crisp. I think it’s good for everybody to feel that win. Today I just went out there and did what I do. Felt good to get back to the top of the podium, especially at the Colton Allen Memorial Tournament. It means everything to be up there for my friend and my school. It feels good. ”
Wallington added “Goal for the day was to win the tournament. Colton and I were pretty close friends. Blast doubles were key today, taking shots, powering through guys. Standing on the podium made me feel that much closer to Colton even though he’s not here. It felt good to win the team title, last year we couldn’t win it but this year we got it by half a point.”
Other top finishes for the Hawks included Mose Yoder runner-up at 113, Kaden Meader runner-up at 170, Ben Meader runner-up at 182 and Gannon Callahan runner-up at 285. Mid-Prairie will next be in action Thursday when they travel to Mount Pleasant.
