A nip and tuck game was in favor of the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team on Friday night when they downed Central Lee 47-43 at home to keep their undefeated record intact.
The Wolves led 12-8 after one and that slight advantage was all they needed, as each team had identical quarters to rest of the way with both squads scoring 16 in the second, nine in the third, and 10 in the final frame. Bradie Buffington came off the bench to drop 16 points on eight of 14 shooting and hauled in five rebounds. Jobey Malone added nine points, Keetyn Townsley recorded four steals, and Kyndal Townsley had four assists along with Jami Wilkerson. WMU shared the ball well assisting on 16 of 21 field goals and Head Coach Mitch Wachs attributes that to his team’s unselfishness. “We are passing the ball really well. Our guards have done a great job of getting the ball inside where we have had some favorable matchups. Our guards have the ability to score, but that just shows how unselfish our team is playing. They don’t care who scores, as long as we score.”
The Wolves improve to 6-0 and they host Mediapolis (3-0) tomorrow.
