After falling to the Demons last winter, the Sigourney girls’ basketball team reclaimed KCII area bragging rights last night by invading Washington and pulling away for a 42-26 win.

As heard on KCII, both offenses struggled to find the back of the net early with Sigourney holding a 5-3 lead after one and 14-11 at the break. Both teams traded mini 6-0 runs to start the third, but hot shooting from Carly Goodwin extended the Savage lead out to 31-19 at the end of the period and they kept the pressure on en route to the 16-point victory. The freshman Goodwin tallied a game-high 19 points with four triples from way behind the arc. Kaylee Weber was cleaning things up down low to finish with 18 points. Washington connected on just 19% of their field goals, but Anna Nacos got going with 16 points and seven rebounds. The Savages have now won three of the last four meetings in the yearly matchup.

Sigourney moves to 3-1 and they make the short trip to play their rival Keota tonight. Washington is now 0-5 and they open Southeast Conference play Friday hosting Mount Pleasant.
