A thorn in the Demons’ side no more. Dropping the last eight meetings against Oskaloosa dating back to 2014, the Washington boys’ basketball team bucked that trend last night by getting over the hump with a convincing 50-30 victory at home.

As heard on KCII, the Demons jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two minutes on the strength of suffocating defense that did not allow the Indians any clean looks. The advantage was 25-14 in favor of Washington at the break and the lead slowly continued to grow in the second half. Washington was short handed in this one, but got a great contribution off the bench from Lance Sobaski. The junior did a little bit of everything for the Demons and tallied a game-high 13 points. Kasen Bailey was also in double figures with 10 points while Ethan Patterson and Trashaun Willis added nine.

Head Coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports Sobaski had his fingerprints all over the game. “This is the start of his varsity experience and he has done a great job of buying into his role. He is constantly in the right spot and he gets rewarded for that. Second chance points has been key for his success. Lucas Kroll had a great game as well. Our role players really gave up some valuable minutes tonight.”

The Demons improve to 2-1 and they gear up for their Southeast Conference opener on Friday at Mount Pleasant.
