After being postponed by COVID-19 from this past March to this summer and then being postponed again, the spring trip to New York for 2020 Mid-Prairie High School Fine Arts seniors has been officially cancelled.
Superintendent Mark Schneider says the decision by the school board this week will allow the fine arts department to seek reimbursement for money that was pre-paid in organizing the trip. Schneider says it’s unfortunate for those students who will miss out on going to “The Big Apple,” “Obviously it’s a great trip for our fine arts students, some of them who would never get to a place like New York where they could take in a Broadway play and things like that that they won’t get to do.”
Schneider says there is no guarantee on how much money the Fine Arts Department will be able to recoup, while parents who purchased travel insurance should get most, if not all, of their money back.
Schneider says planning the next Fine Arts trip to New York is up in the air since it appears Broadway is not expected to reopen for normal show productions until at least summer 2021 due to the pandemic.
