If you’re looking to travel out of Iowa for the holidays, you may need to factor coronavirus concerns into your plans.
Local travel agent Lori Reese of Wellman, says while people are COVID-19 weary and eager to plan winter getaways, they should exercise caution, especially for those wanting to travel abroad, “A lot of countries have imposed restrictions. You (might) have to have a COVID test within 72-48 hours of when you arrive. They may test you when you arrive or they may deny you entry before you travel. That’s deterring some people until vaccines are coming.”
Reese says if you’re traveling within the United States, you’ll also want to check ahead with your destination, “People need to be aware that states have quarantine issues. I know Iowa had such high COVID numbers that several states that, if you’re coming from Iowa, you’re supposed to quarantine once you get there.”
Reese says given the travel concerns brought on by the pandemic, now’s a better time to travel within the state. She also recommends to call your hotel ahead of time to see what COVID restrictions they have in place for amenities like onsite dining and be sure to inquire about the hotel’s sanitation procedures.
