The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team returns to the floor tonight when they welcome Cascade to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Hawks are 3-2 on the season and were dominant last time out, beating up on North Cedar 64-8. Mid-Prairie put four in double figures in that game with Phelan Hostetler scoring 13 points, Nora Pennington and Maddie Nonnenmann each had a dozen and Myah Lugar 10. For the season, Mid-Prairie has two scoring in double figures with Nonnenmann at 13 per game and Lugar 11. Nonnenmann leads the Hawks on the glass with six boards per contest and Amara Jones has a team best four assists per game.
Cascade is 4-3 this season. Last time out they also took out North Cedar 66-29. For the season, the Cougars are led by two in double digits with sophomore Alyssa Lux at 18 per game and junior Ally Hoffman scoring 13 per game. Hoffman pulls down a team best seven rebounds per game and dishes out two assists per contest. This week, Mid-Prairie head girls basketball coach Danny Hershberger spoke about what he likes most about his team’s recent play. “The biggest thing is we are communicating together, especially on defense and that is so key for us. I think our girls are stepping up. We’re also doing a great job rebounding, limiting our opponents to one shot. Balanced scoring has also been important over the last week.”
These two teams met a season ago with Cascade taking a 77-34 win on their home floor. Action starts tonight at 6:30p.m. at Mid-Prairie High School.
