The Iowa Department of Transportation is seeking public input for proposed highway improvements on Iowa 92 from east of U.S. 218 to 2nd Street in Columbus Junction.
This past June, The Iowa Transportation Commission approved $25.92 million in the 2021-2025 Five-Year Iowa Highway Program for the proposed 8.7-mile project which will remove the existing pavement and reconstruct mainline pavement and shoulders to provide a 24-foot-wide roadway with 10-foot-wide shoulders during the 2023 construction season. Improvements to curves and intersections to modernize the highway and enhance mobility and safety, new drainage structures, edgeline, and centerline rumble strips will be constructed and access improvements along the length of the project are also planned.
According to the DOT, traffic on Iowa 92 would be detoured during construction using U.S. 218 (south and north) to Iowa 22 (east and west), then to Iowa 70 (south and north). It is anticipated the detour will be in place for the majority of the construction and local traffic will have access to Iowa 92.
DOT District Five Transportation Planner Hector Torres-Cacho says any member of the community or stakeholder may submit their comments on the project. The deadline for comments is January 5, though Torres-Cacho says submissions after that date may still be considered for the project plans.
To submit public comments, you will need to register to view the online meeting at: www.bit.ly/iowadot3565. The Iowa DOT is asking interested parties to take a few minutes to view the information and offer any feedback.
