Doubling up their opponent is an emphatic way for a team to pick up their first win of the season and that’s exactly what the Highland girls did on Friday by downing Tri-County 68-34.
Taking control early is what the Huskies accomplished with a 20-9 advantage after one, but the Trojans battled to make it a 31-21 game at half. A 21-6 third quickly put the night to rest en route to a 34-point Huskie victory. It was a career game for Dani Laughlin, as she outscored the Trojans by herself with 37 points. The sophomore connected on five triples, shot 44% from the floor, and hit eight of 11 free throws to carry the offense. She also managed six steals and five boards. Abbi Stransky added 16 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists.
The Huskies improve to 1-2 and are off until January 5th against Pekin.
