The first half of the season concludes tonight for the Washington basketball teams when they meet up with Fort Madison for Southeast Conference action.
The Demon boys (4-1) have won both of their conference games by single digits with the latest being a 67-62 victory over Fairfield on Saturday. Going 22 of 30 from the line and out rebounding the Trojans 45-30 helped the Demons close out the nail biting victory. Kasen Bailey led the way with 20 points and Ethan Patterson had 19. Trashaun Willis added 12 and Lance Sobaski hauled in 15 rebounds. Fort Madison is 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the league after a 48-36 victory over Keokuk on Friday. Dayton Davis has been a steady force with 13.5 points and 10.2 rebounds a night. The Bloodhounds seem to be improved from a 6-16 campaign last year where the Demons swept them in a pair of games.
The Demon girls (0-7) look to bounce back from a 53-22 loss to Fairfield where they got down 33-5 at the break and couldn’t recover after that. Kaylin Long came off the bench to record a team-high seven points. Anna Nacos leads the team on the season with 9.4 points and 1.9 assists a game. The Bloodhounds are 5-1 and defeated Keokuk 53-43. Malarie Ross has been lethal averaging 21.8 points a night. These two squads split a season ago with both teams winning by 20-plus points on two separate occasions.
The boys are at home with the girls on the road and both contests get underway around 7:45 p.m. Listen to the boys’ game on FM 106.1 KCII starting around 7:15 p.m.
