Washington County’s unemployment rate rose slightly in November while the rate was stagnant statewide.

Washington’s unemployment rate is at 2.3% compared to 2.2% in October. For contiguous counties, Henry County rose from 2.8% in October to 3% in November, Iowa County decreased from 2.2 to 2.1%, Jefferson increased from 2.8 to 3.2%, Johnson remained at 2.8%, Keokuk rose from 2.5 to 2.8%, and Louisa rose from 2.8 to 3%. All of these counties have higher rates than November of 2019, as Washington County’s rate was 2% this time last year.

Statewide the rate remains at 3.6%, with 57,900 Iowans who have filed for unemployment. The national rate dipped slightly in November from 6.9 to 6.7%.
