Another Washington summer sports athlete will be taking their talents to the next level, as Reece Mayer recently made it official his intent to play baseball at Southeastern Community College in Burlington.
Mayer is being recruited as an outfielder for a strong Blackhawk program that has won 70% of their games in the last seven seasons. The senior busted out this past summer leading the Southeast Conference in slugging percentage with .698. Mayer paced the Demons with a .377 batting average, 17 RBI, and 10 extra base hits in the shortened campaign. He finished the year with a third team all state selection by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Mayer explains why SCC was the place for him. “When I went up to visit I knew it was the right fit as soon as I walked in the door. Everyone was so nice and made me feel welcome. They have a great baseball program and it felt right. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to play baseball and to pursue that passion.”
The senior plans to start out with an open major, but has an interest in the sports field for a possible future occupation.
