As we may be looking forward to the next summer to come already, the Washington Parks and Recreation Department is looking forward to completion of the first phase of the Wellness Park.
Work began last summer on the park located on the northwest corner of West 5th Street and North Avenue D. The first phase features four baseball/softball fields, four sand volleyball courts, and two full-sized soccer fields. Park Superintendent Nick Pacha gives an update on the project, “Most of 1B is completed. The fencing is up, grass is planted and had a really good grow in and of course all four ball fields are irrigated and the two soccer fields are irrigated so we’re able to keep the proper moisture on there for growth. Fencing’s up, dugouts are up, concession stand – Greiner Buildings is still putting the finishing touches on that, some interior things.”
Pacha says he hopes the spring will provide greater growth on the grass seeding and that ball seasons can begin on June 1st.
