The City of Riverside is reviewing the results of a survey gauging the interest for a new community center.

Over 1200 surveys were mailed out to residents and property owners with Riverside addresses asking if a community center should be built and what amenities should be included in its design. At Monday’s city council meeting, City Administrator Christine Yancey reported preliminary results are pointing towards an overall desire for the center, “I was pleasantly surprised by the ones that I read about how many people want to serve on the (planning) committee. There were quite a few, 10, 12 maybe that had their names on the back (of the survey). For the most part things were favorable to having the community center, but we’ll find out when they file the report.”

Yancey says about 19 percent of the surveys were returned by the December 31st deadline, but late surveys will still be accepted. However, she says the final report to the council next week will be based on the over 250 surveys already received by the deadline.
