Washington County residents are reminded of an online community discussion event with a University of Iowa professor happening tomorrow.
The Washington for Justice organization is hosting guest speaker Yolanda Spears for a discussion titled, “A Focus on Our Community: Race, Cultural Competence, and Bias” at 3 p.m. on the Zoom video conference platform. Spears is a licensed masters level social worker and is currently teaching a master level social work course on discrimination, oppression, and diversity. She is also the coordinator of the Critical Cultural Competence certificate program. Spears has consulted in several different training sectors and is a National Coalition Building Institute leadership trainer which focuses on working to eliminate prejudice and intergroup conflict in communities. This virtual event is open to the public, and information on how to attend is included in here.
