The City of Kalona’s next “Pop Up Pantry” is set for this Saturday.
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they’re ready to distribute another 200 boxes of food to those in need from 9-11:00 a.m. at the Public Works building. He says they’ve been able to continue helping people facing food insecurity on almost a monthly basis thanks to donations by local residents and businesses, and the assistance of Hawkeye Area Community Action Corporation (HACAP), “They’ve been really receptive and accommodating with how fast they can get the food here. We have some special needs because we don’t have a lot of refrigeration and freezer space, so delivering as late as possible and so forth. And just the amount of food they’ve been able to provide us and continue to provide us is just really important for us to make this work in the quantities that we’re putting out.”
Schlabaugh says anyone in need is welcome to drive up for a food box this weekend and they do not require proof of residence or income. The City can also arrange for delivery by calling 319-656-2310.
