The Riverside City Council is expected to get the results of a survey gauging the need for a new community center at tonight’s budget meeting.
City Administrator Christine Yancey says preliminary indications are that Riverside residents want a new community and rec center to be built after years of consideration, “We have half a million dollars set aside as seed money to start it. And then there will be a bond to raise remaining funds. The intention is not to raise taxes, that is our whole intent is that we want to be able to do this and not raise any taxes either for the building of it or its upkeep.”
Yancey says if and when the Council approves the go-ahead for the project, the next step is to form a planning committee. She says one major decision yet to be made is the location for a potential facility.
The Riverside budget and capital projects work session begins at 6:00 pm tonight (Jan. 11).
