It was another victory going away for the #7 ranked Keota boys’ basketball team on Tuesday night when they welcomed HLV (2-9) to town and had little trouble in a 60-39 final.
It didn’t take long for this one to be put to bed with the Eagles storming out to a 15-8 advantage after one and 31-11 at the break. Luke Hammen had an efficient outing hitting nine of 12 shots to finish with a game-high 23 points. Carson Sprouse added 12 points and dished out three assists. This is the sixth time during the season the Eagle defense has held their opponents below 40 points. They move to 11-0 overall and 8-0 in the South Iowa Cedar League.
The Keota girls came back from a 23-14 deficit at the break to take a lead in the final minute, but a HLV (5-6) three pointer in the waning moments was the dagger in a 41-39 final. Taylor Kindred recorded 11 points in the defeat and Sky Weber had eight. The Eagles drop to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
Both Keota teams get back at it tomorrow at Montezuma.
