
New London spoiled a home doubleheader for the WACO basketball teams on Thursday with the Tigers sweeping the Southeast Iowa Super Conference showdown.
The Warrior girls dug themselves an early 18-6 hole after one and made a valiant fourth quarter comeback, but the Tigers (3-10) held on for a 50-47 victory. WACO’s Ellah Kissell went off in the defeat with six made shots from long range to finish with a game-high 24 points. Morgan Graber added eight points.
The Warrior boys couldn’t keep up in a 68-39 Tiger win. New London’s (8-3) Blaise Porter led all scorers with 20 points. Zach Schmitz recorded 10 points for WACO and Simeon Reichenbach added nine.
The girls fall to 4-7 on the season and travel to Danville tonight. The boys are 1-10 and have Winfield-Mt. Union today.
