The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams face off with the Tipton Tigers Tuesday at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls are 7-7 overall, 7-6 in the River Valley entering tonight after a 66-48 loss to No. 9 West Liberty on Friday where they were led by Maddie Nonnenmann’s 16 points and 10 from Myah Lugar. For the season, the Golden Hawks are paced by Nonnenmann at 13 points and six rebounds per game. Amara Jones averages four assists and three steals per game.
Tipton enters play with a 4-8 overall record. The Tigers are 2-7 in the River Valley. They have been off since the 11th when they beat up on Calamus-Wheatland 55-25 behind a 25 point 18 rebound double double from Rachel Biermann. On the season Biermann leads the Tigers at 15 points, 10 rebounds and two steals per game. These two teams met in December with Mid-Prairie taking a 58-30 win on the road. The Hawks have won 17 of the last 19 in the series.
The Mid-Prairie boys are 7-3 on the year and 7-2 in the RVC after a 50-40 win over Cascade on Saturday behind 16 points from Carter Harmsen and 10 from Ethan Kos. On the year, the Hawks are led by Harmsen at 21 points per game, seventh most in the state and his seven boards per contest. Jack Pennington has a team best five assists per game, 10th in 2A.
Tipton is 5-7 on the year, 3-7 in the River Valley. They fell to Regina in their last game 53-40 despite 14 points from Bob Ryan and 10 from Cody Bohlmann. On the season the Tigers are led by Kayden Rezac at 10 points and four rebounds per game. These two teams met earlier this year with Mid-Prairie taking an impressive 54-25 win on the road.
