The Highland School District is continuing their policy to not allow the use of school facilities by outside groups.
Superintendent Ken Crawford says concerns over the ongoing pandemic means the restriction will remain in place for at least a couple more weeks. He says it also allows them to play “catch up” with school activities that were suspended when the district moved to virtual learning back in November, “Right now we just have so many activities we’ve crammed in (that) we lost earlier in the season with being home for over two weeks. Now we’ve got ball games almost every night, so just how many people do you want in your building yet and still try to stay safe during a pandemic. So, that’s a hard line you always have to walk.”
Crawford says they will also continue to limit the attendance at home athletic events to only members of each participant’s household. He says their conservative approach is an effort to keep students and staff in the district safe, and the school board will revisit the issue in their next work session scheduled for January 25th.
