They had to sweat it out, but Keota fans saw their boys’ basketball team squeak out a home South Iowa Cedar League matchup on Tuesday against English Valleys winning 66-63 in overtime.

The Eagles trailed by six at half, but a 17-9 third quarter set up a tight fourth and the game was tied 55 all at the end of regulation. Keota outscored the Bears 11-8 in the extra four minutes to get back in the win column. Kaden Hall was a tough Bear player to stop finishing with a game-high 35 points. Carson Sprouse led Keota with 18 points and nine rebounds. Bryce Greiner had 14 points off the bench, Luke Hammen added 12, and Wyatt Sieren created five steals. Keota improves to 12-1 and EV is 10-5.

The Eagle girls did not find the back of the net in the first quarter and quickly found themselves down 18-0 after eight minutes. They could never dig themselves out of the early hole and fell 65-24. English Valleys is now 7-7 and Keota is 2-9.

Both Eagle squads host Belle Plaine tomorrow.
