The second Southeast Conference rivalry meeting between Washington and Mount Pleasant favored the Panthers last night when they swept both Demon basketball teams.

As heard on KCII, the Demon boys continued their trend of getting out to fast starts by racing out to a 16-1 advantage in the first four minutes. A full court man press and three shots from long range by Ethan Patterson carried Washington to a 24-10 lead after one. The Panthers gave the Demons a taste of their own medicine by putting on a press of their own and they found success in it to inch their way back to a seven point deficit at half and trail just 43-42 at the end of three. Despite Kasen Bailey going down with an injury early in the quarter and Trashaun Willis fouling out, Washington was able to go toe-to-toe with Mount Pleasant (8-6) in the final period, but the Panthers made the plays down the stretch and knocked down free throws to prevail 55-52. Dewon Trent was a force inside with a game-high 22 points. Washington was led by Patterson with 14 points, Lance Sobaski had 12, and Lucas Kroll added nine. Washington falls to 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the SEC. Burlington currently resides in the top spot with a 4-1 conference mark.

The Demon girls traveled to Mount Pleasant and was able to get stops early and trail just 17-10 at the break, but the Panthers (8-6) pulled away for a 46-30 victory. Josie Tanner led the orange and black with nine points including three shots from long range. Alex Murphy added seven points and 14 rebounds. The Demons drop to 1-13 on the season.

Both Washington teams turn around and have a road trip on Monday at Ottumwa.
