In a mini five team tournament at Wapello on Thursday, the Highland wrestling team had a successful outing with three grapplers placing first.
The Huskies had just five wrestlers compete, but still placed third with 85 points while Wapello won with 178 points. Easton Schlabaugh wiped the floor at 106 lbs going 5-0 with four pins in a combined 4:56 and an 18-1 technical fall. Carlos Valenzuela pinned all three of his opponents at 126 lbs in a combined 5:15. Bryce Thompson also captured gold at 113 lbs with a pin in 47 seconds and a 19-4 tech fall. Other Huskie performances included Jack Peiffer third at 120 lbs and Eli Slaymaker fourth at 220 lbs.
WACO finished fifth with 13 points and John McLaughlin was victorious in one of five matches at 106 lbs with an 11-1 major decision.
