It was a happy bus ride home Friday for the Sigourney basketball teams when they invaded North English and ended the night with a pair of South Iowa Cedar League wins over English Valleys.

The Savage girls jumped all over the Bears for a 29-11 advantage at the break and that big cushion proved to loom large in the second half. English Valleys won the third quarter 16-9 and a 13-8 fourth made the game interesting, but Sigourney hung on for the road victory. Kaylee Weber had another productive night hitting nine of 12 shots to finish with 21 points and nine rebounds. Zoe Webb and Julia VanEe each added seven points. The Bears drop to 7-8 and the Savages won their eighth straight to move to 13-3.

The Sigourney boys are also on a hot streak winning seven of nine including a 70-57 win over the Bears. A 7-5 lead after one grew to 36-22 at half and the Savages kept their distance the rest of the way. Four players were in double figures led by Levi Crawford’s 19 points. Josh Mohr added 13 points, Brock Halleran had 12, and Bo Schmidt recorded 12. Ethan Shifflett brought in 15 boards on the night and the team only turned the ball over seven times. English Valleys drops to 10-6 and Sigourney is now 8-7.

Both Savage squads host Belle Plaine on Friday.
