A three-vehicle wreck resulted in one injury Thursday afternoon north of Kalona.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:40 p.m. 43-year-old Kevin Dwight Frey of Cedar Rapids was driving a Chevy Express south on Highway 1 just south of Johnson-Washington Road Southwest when he was attempting to turn east into the driveway of N&N Sanitation. Frey’s vehicle was stopped to yield to oncoming traffic and had his left turn signal activated, and a Jeep Cherokee driven by 25-year-old Gage Thomas Bauserman of Cedar Rapids was behind him also attempting to turn left with the turn signal activated, when the Jeep was struck in the rear by a Honda Odyssey driven by 39-year-old Heather Joy Kemp of Kalona, and the Jeep then struck the rear of the Chevy.
One person was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics for treatment of injuries. The Chevy suffered functional damage, and the Jeep and Honda were both totaled. Charges are pending against Kemp for failure to wear a seatbelt and failure to stop in a clear and assured distance. Kalona Fire and QRS and Washington County Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
