It’s a Washington County showdown in Wellman tonight when the Mid-Prairie basketball teams welcome Washington for a girl/boy doubleheader.

The girls’ game has ended in the Golden Hawks favor five of the last six seasons, but the Demons claimed victory last year with a 45-41 win. Mid-Prairie is 8-8 out of the River Valley Conference and Maddie Nonnenmann provides much of the offense with 13.4 points and 6.7 rebounds a night. The Golden Hawks look to get back in the win column after a 47-34 loss to Bellevue on Friday. The Demons are riding high after a 36-35 season sweep of Burlington to improve to 2-13 on the season. The offense is trying to find consistency with just 32 points a game and Anna Nacos accounts for 10 of those.

The Washington boys have won seven of the last eight meetings in the rivalry including a 61-47 win last season. The Demons are 10-4 and regained the lead in the Southeast Conference after a 67-57 win over Burlington. Ethan Patterson paces the team with 15.2 points a game and Trashaun Willis hauls in 6.9 boards. Mid-Prairie improved to 9-5 after a 61-51 win over Bellevue. Carter Harmsen has been a machine averaging 19.1 points and 6.7 rebounds including shooting 34.2% from long range.

Golden Hawk boys’ coach Daren Lambert tells KCII Sports this game is just special. “It is always fun when we face off with each other. Both teams want to win so it is always a good test. The kids know each other and go to summer camps together so it will be a fun experience for everyone.”

The girls’ game gets underway at 6 p.m. tonight with the boys to follow in Wellman. Listen to the doubleheader on FM 106.1 AM 1380 FM 102.5 KCII and kciiradio.com.
